Thanks for sharing the story. My father is actually suffering from sleep apnea and right now, we are looking for a CPAP machine that will work for him. We tried one before but it was uncomfortable for him and he developed some kind of rhinitis problem. I will forward this post to him so he can learn from your experience.

I enjoyed reading your story and am very happy that you have found good success after trial and error. More importantly, you didn't give up! I also have sleep apnea and use a CPAP at night and agree the extremely stuffy nose dilemna keeps me from a good nights sleep as well. I am in a situation that I cannot take ANY antihistamines, whether in sprays, cold medicines, tablets, et al, due to the interactions with other medications I currently take. Do you or anyone else have any ideas or solutions to this particular problem? I have heard of prescription nose sprays that contain no antihistamines but are steroidal in make up. Has anyone used one of those with good success? I think I really need to head to my doc and discuss all of this with him, but thought I would check here first to get any thoughts or ideas. Thanks so much!

Just a quick note that if you just can't seem to do well with the CPAP, it also might be that you have a different form of sleep apnea, CENTRAL SLEEP APNEA. I could never seem to use the CPAP, and finally went to Mayo Clinic, where I found I have CENTRAL sleep apnea, and I need a CPAP SV machine, which actually forces air into your lungs when you do not breathe. It uses progressively greater pressure to fill your lungs. I used to stop breathing more than once a minute with the regular CPAP, but did not stop at all using the CPAP SV. The odd thing is that I do not mind using the new machine, where I hated the old one. I guess I did not see a use for a machine that did not work.

However, I now find that when I sleep and feel as though I am resting comfortably, I still am in an awake state. Has anyone had this experience? I used a wrist monitor for a week, and that was the outcome.
