This was very helpful. My only concern is breaking Clartin-D in half. It is time released, so breaking or crush the pill is a big no no, because 12 hours of medicine will be absorbed all at once. They actually have generic sudaphed in a 12 hour, which is the active ingredient. Good luck to everyone!!!

I am so glad to find out I am not the only one that takes off the mask during the night. I have had my machine for a week and every morning, the mask is off. I am trying the antihistamine tonight! Thank you!

Teri,
I take it right before I go to bed. I break up the pill too. Its a size meant for 24 hours. Since I'm not going to be sleeping for 24 hours I'll break off a piece and swallow that. That does save a little bit of money too, and the bottle lasts a long time.
Hope that helps!

Bryan,
Save some dough and be sure to buy generic. And let me know if it helps.
It took me a long time to figure out that my problem was with the clogged nose. And truth to tell, I wasn't 100% certain until I gave the antihistamines a shot. Up till that point it was merely a suspicion. When you're dropping in and out of sleep your cognitive faculties aren't the best. So you should notice pretty quickly if the Clairitin helps.
All the best!

Thanks! I keep having a problem with taking my mask off at night - it seems to be related to clogged nasal passages. Going to try Claritin-D now!

Thanks for sharing the story. My father is actually suffering from sleep apnea and right now, we are looking for a CPAP machine that will work for him. We tried one before but it was uncomfortable for him and he developed some kind of rhinitis problem. I will forward this post to him so he can learn from your experience.

I enjoyed reading your story and am very happy that you have found good success after trial and error. More importantly, you didn't give up! I also have sleep apnea and use a CPAP at night and agree the extremely stuffy nose dilemna keeps me from a good nights sleep as well. I am in a situation that I cannot take ANY antihistamines, whether in sprays, cold medicines, tablets, et al, due to the interactions with other medications I currently take. Do you or anyone else have any ideas or solutions to this particular problem? I have heard of prescription nose sprays that contain no antihistamines but are steroidal in make up. Has anyone used one of those with good success? I think I really need to head to my doc and discuss all of this with him, but thought I would check here first to get any thoughts or ideas. Thanks so much!
